Lakeview Oshawa

By the mid 1800s Oshawa had one of the busiest harbours in Lake Ontario. One of the first settlers in this area was Thomas Henry, an early harbourmaster and former president of the Oshawa Harbour Company. The Henry House along with the Robinson House and the Guy House are all still in their original locations in what is now Lakeview Park. These historic houses now serve as integral parts of the Oshawa Museum. Lakeview Park itself was developed in the 1920s. Lakeview Park’s signature Jubilee Pavilion, affectionately known as the “Jube”, has served as the social hub of this neighbourhood ever since it was built in 1927. The nearby General Motors company held their annual picnic in Lakeview Park with bands, dancing and carnival games. Most of the residential homes in the neighbourhood were built to accommodate the employees at the General Motors Assembly Plant.
