      History:

      Meadowvale was one of the first and most successful planned communites in North America. It was developed in 1970 by Markborough Properties who had assembled over 2400 aces of former farmland to build their community. Meadowvale’s master plan community involved mixing residential pockets and business pockets within the same community. Public housing was another important component of the community. The idea was to have a self-sustained community and to that end Meadowvale also included a shopping centre, schools, parks, recreation centre and most notably two man made lakes situated within a protected conservation area where residents could enjoy hikes and picnics. Meadowvale houses were built in the 1970s and 80s and soon homeowners would be followed by businesses and a community was born.

      Overview:

      Prime arterial streets leading into Meadowvale feature a large street sign proudly welcoming motorists to this neighbourhood. Meadowvale is situated in the northwest part of Mississauga. This relatively new neighbourhood is not be to be confused with the historic Meadowvale Village neighbourhood situated a short drive to the east; Meadowvale includes large tracts of subdivision housing making it one of Mississauga’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. It must be the townhome capital of Mississauga as small townhomes are evident wherever you look in this neighbourhood. Neighbourhood amenities include: the Meadowvale Town Centre, the Meadowvale Community Centre and library and Meadowvale Four Rinks. There is a large corporate office corridor to the east of the neighbourhood. These businesses enjoy convenient access to Highway 401 and the City of Toronto.

      Meadowvale even has its own lake(s); thats right, two lakes !!, Lake Aquitane which is part of Lakle Aquitaine Park and is situated adjacent to the Meadowvale Community Centre and Library is the  site of a popular Urban Fishing Festival.and includes a great trail for biking, hiking and cross-country skiing. Lake Wabukayne situated at the intersection of Erin Mills Parkway and Britannia, is a storm management pond built in the 1970’s. The group, “Friends of Lake Wabukayne” works to enhance and conserve this natural area so that it can be a healthy and inviting environment for people, birds, animals and plant life. The Wabukayne park trail,is a walking path that circles the lake and is popular with joggers or those just out for a stroll.

      Lifestyle:

      Meadowvale is an affordable family oriented community situated at the north end of Scarborough. This is typical suburban living. You will need to have a car to drive to neighbourhood amenities but that should be no problem as all the houses have a single or double car garage out front.The commuter highways border this neighbourhood so if you need to get to get anywhere it is fairly easy to do so. There is also Go Train service in neighbouring Streetsville.

      Meadowvale Town Centre is a community hub featuring 88 stores anchored by Wal-Mart. The Meadowvale Bus Terminal is conveniently located next to  the mall.

      Homes:

      Meadowvale’s housing stock dates mostly to the 1970s and 80s. There is a mix of public and private housing. The homes here are generally smaller and more affordable than most Mississauga neighbourhoods. There are modest detached and semi-detached homes and townhomes included in this housing mix. Meadowvale must be the townhouse capital of Mississauga as these dwellings can be found in a dizzying array of shapes and sizes.

      Recreation:

      Meadowvale Community Centre located at 6655 Glen Erin Drive, has a large indoor pool, a fitness centre with a 2 lane walking track and 3 international style squash courts. There are also community meeting rooms, sports leagues and a library.

      Meadowvale 4 Rinks located at 2160 Torquay Mews, features 4 large ice surfaces used for hockey leagues, power skating, pleasure skating and figure skating.

      Meadowvale Conservation Area is located at 1081 Old Derry Road West at the end of Second Line just north of Old Derry Road. These protected lands on the banks of the Credit River offer something for the whole family including picnic spots, hiking trails and fishing.

      Arts:

      Meadowvale Theatre located at 6315 Montevideo Rd, is a mid size venue that boasts an excellent array of live theatre performances.
