Meadow Ridge
History:
Many of the streets in Meadow Ridge are named after war veterans that served on the British warships: Achilles, Ajax and Exeter that famously defeated the German battleship Admiral Graf Spee in the Battle of the River Plate the first naval battle of the Second World War. The Town of Ajax operated one of the largest munitions plants in the British Empire during the war and has a proud military history including commemorating many veterans by naming streets after them.
Overview:
Meadow Ridge is situated in the northwest part of Ajax with the Greenbelt and rural countryside to the north. The gently curving, pedestrian friendly streets are lined with decorative street lamps. This neighbourhood is ideal for families. Some of the amenities include: Eagle Glen Meadows park, Vimy Ridge Public School and Meadow Ridge Plaza.
Lifestyle:
Meadow Ridge Plaza located at the intersection of Westney Road & Taunton Road is an open air shopping centre anchored by retailers retailers such as Sobeys, Goodlife Fitness and Dollarama.
Homes:
Meadow Ridge is a newer subdivision with homes built in the 2000s. These are large detached homes with brick exteriors and double car garages. There are also pockets of townhomes with traditional designs including covered front porches.
Arts:
The former St. Francis de Sales Church, appropriately situated on Church Street, is a Gothic Victorian architectural masterpiece that has been converted by the Town of Ajax into a multi-use community arts, cultural and performance centre now known as the St. Francis Centre. This beautiful venue hosts a myriad of arts events including: live theatre, film screenings, concerts, music recitals, workshops, art shows and private and public functions.
