Bronte Meadows
History:
Bronte Meadows is one of the older neighbourhoods in Milton. It was developed in the 1970s. The name makes reference to Bronte Street the west boundary of the neighbourhood. The name Meadows makes sense as prior to development this was strictly grassland used for the cultivation of hay. Meadows may have also been a reference to the lower ground near the Sixteen Mile Creek.
Overview:
Bronte Meadows is a small neighbourhood situated in central Milton just south of the Old Milton and Fallingbrook neighbourhoods. Boundaries are Derry Road to the south, Bronte Meadows Park to the north, Bronte Street to the west and Ontario Street to the east. Neighbourhood landmarks include Bronte Meadows Park, John Tonelli Sports Centre and Derry Heights Plaza.
Lifestyle:
Bronte Street includes random pockets of shopping including fast food shops, specialty food stores, Shoppers Drug Mart and an assortment of medical and professional offices.
Homes:
Bronte Meadows is one of Milton’s older neighbourhoods and consists of houses built in the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s. There is a little bit of everything from ranch style homes and split-level homes on wide lots to two-storey homes and affordable townhouse complexes.
Recreation:
Bronte Meadows Park is a large greenspace situated in the middle of the neighbourhood that provides a myriad of recreational options for residents of this neighbourhood. These include two tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a basketball court, children’s playground and a splash pad. Adjacent to the Bronte Meadows Park is the John Tonelli sports centre that has a single pad ice rink that is used for organized and recreational hockey as well as pleasure skating.
Arts:
The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton located at 1010 Main Street East is an ultra modern facility where the arts flourish in the form of performances, a myriad of events, art exhibitions and community based programming for all ages. The Holcim Gallery situated inside the Arts Centre spotlights an eclectic mix of art exhibitions encompassing a variety of art mediums. There are new exhibitions every month throughout the year.
