Coates
History:
The Coates neighbourhood was created in 1998 by the Town of Milton as part of an ambitious urban expansion plan referred to as the Bristol Survey. The actual building of the neighbourhood commenced in the early 2000s. Coates was chosen as the name for this new neighbourhood as a tribute to its first settlers James and Elizabeth Coates who emigrated here in 1836.
Overview:
Coates is a family oriented neighbourhood filled with pathways and parks and traffic calmed streets with bicycle lanes. Coates Neighbourhood Park North and South are the dominant neighbourhood landmark providing a continuous green corridor through the centre of the neighbourhood. The north boundary is Derry Road, south boundary is Louis St. Laurent Avenue, west boundary is Ontario Street and east boundary is Thompson Road.
Lifestyle:
Milton Mall located at 55 Ontario Street South is an enclosed shopping mall with approximately 50 stores and a food court. Downwtown Milton on Main Street features a plethora of cafes and restaurants.
Homes:
Coates homes range in size from larger detached homes to smaller semi-detached homes. The traditional architecture includes brick exteriors, street facing roof gables. portico entranceways and built-in garages.
Recreation:
Coates Park, north and south are conveniently situated in the centre of the neighbourhood within walking distance of all the homes in this neighbourhood. These connected parks include; a children’s playground, splash pad, walking paths, basketball court and sports fields.
Arts:
The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton located at 1010 Main Street East is an ultra modern facility where the arts flourish in the form of performances, a myriad of events, art exhibitions and community based programming for all ages. The Holcim Gallery situated inside the Arts Centre spotlights an eclectic mix of art exhibitions encompassing a variety of art mediums. There are new exhibitions every month throughout the year.
