    History:

    In the mid 1800s, the area now known as South Core was a railway corridor that serviced the thriving shipping industry on the Toronto waterfront. By the 1950s transport trucks had replaced railways as the preferred mode of transportation for business. This shift led to the building of The Gardiner Expressway in 1955. The Gardiner Expressway to the south and the derelict railway tracks to the north created a wedge of landlocked real estate that nobody seemed to know what to do with. In the ensuing decades South Core would slowly begin to take shape; first with the building of the CN Tower, followed by the Metro Convention Centre, the SkyDome (now Rogers Centre), the Scotiabank Centre, and most recently the multi-hundred million dollar renovation of historic Union Station. In 2009 Telus Tower was built followed by Maple Leaf Square in 2010. These landmark developments signalled South Core’s arrival as a mixed use neighbourhood where people can live, work and play.

    Overview:

    South Core is located in the core of downtown Toronto. If you want to live in a fast-paced, frenetic and vibrant Toronto neighbourhood that never sleeps South Core is your best choice. During the day South Core is all business and suits with many corporate offices headquartered here. At night South Core is buzzing with activity as swarms of people descend on the nightly sports and entertainment events at the Scotiabank Centre and Rogers Centre. The Financial and Entertainment districts, as well as the Toronto waterfront, are all located on the doorstep of this neighbourhood. South Core is a high-energy, high tempo neighbourhood that is hip, urban, and cool so it is only fitting that it has adopted the nickname SoCo which stands for South Core but could easily stand for So Cool. Hey, after all, how many people can say they work in a shiny new corporate office tower by day, and in the evening can skip over to the Scotiabank Centre or the Rogers Centre to watch professional sports or take in a live concert, then head over to the Real Sports Bar and Grill for a late dinner or evening snack and drinks, and then walk home to your condo in the sky. It does not get much cooler than that.

    Forget commuting and leave your car at home you will not need it residing in South Core where you can live, work and play all within a small radius. If trains and subways are your preferred mode of transportation then Union Station is just a short walk away. Motorists can zip in and out of the City via the Gardiner Expressway that skirts the southern perimeter of this neighbourhood.
