Tam O'Shanter-Sullivan
History:
This neighbourhood was farmland until the 1940s when Highway 401 was built which led to the development of the present day neighbourhood in the 1950s and 60s. This neighbourhood takes its name from the Tam O’Shanter Golf Course which was built in 1973.
Overview:
Tam O’Shanter-Sullivan is bordered by Huntingwood Drive to the North, Kennedy Road to the East, Highway 401 to the South and Victoria Park to the West. The main landmark is the Tam O’Shanter golf course which is considered one of the premiere public golf courses in Toronto.
Lifestyle:
There are numerous shopping plazas along Warden Avenue and Sheppard Avenue. The retail mix includes: grocery stores, , restaurants, banks, and professional services.
Homes:
The homes in this neighbourhood are situated on nice size lots that face onto pretty tree-lined crescents. Most of the houses were built in the 1950’s and 60s and include traditional architectural styles ranging from Tudor style and Colonial two-storey homes to post modern bungalows. Exteriors are mostly a mix of brick and frame siding.
Recreation:
Tam O’Shanter Golf Course located at 2481 Birchmount Road is one of Toronto’s premiere public golf courses. Nestled along the picturesque Highland Creek this 18 hole course features a Par 72 -6083 yards and is considered a moderately difficult course. Wishing Well Park located at 1700 Pharmacy Avenue has an a community tennis club, baseball diamond and children’s playground.
